Draft Strategy
Vision
The vision of our forebears is encapsulated in the saying "Ngati-Whakaue iho, ake".
The vision comes from tikanga Ngati Whakaue. It is a metaphor from whaikorero and does not easily translate into English. But its basis is:
- whakapapa is sacrosanct
- a Ngati Whakaue that continues forever
- a strong, cohesive body
- strong through our knowledge and practice of tikanga and kawa
- cohesive through our understanding of ourselves
Our vision for the future:
Ngati Whakaue Iho Ake
Mission
The purpose of the outlook process is to look at building a capability to achieve that vision.
Our mission is foretold by Tunohopu:
"Hei aha au te mate noa ake ai i taku pakarito ka tupu."
His reference was to the growth and prosperity of his descendants.
Strategy development is for future generations and must stand the test of time.

There was consultation with kaumatua who maintained that fundamental to any Ngati Whakaue Education Strategy were those principles that must always overlay everything that we do:
Whakapakari tangata i roto i nga "tikanga" o Ngati Whakaue:
1. Whakapapa: Nga Koromatua o Ngati Whakaue
2. Ahi Kaa
3. Te Reo
Strategies
Six strategies emerged through the consultation process:
To establish Te Reo / Tikanga learning programmes and wananga
To develop programmes and projects for public and private funded educational activities that support the individual and strengthen the whanau
To monitor the effectiveness of the delivery and outcomes of education services to Ngati Whakaue
To establish a research unit with database and tribal register
To develop an infrastructure that meets service / needs requirements
To pursue strategic alliances
