Background
The Board was created by the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Act 1995 on 3 October 1995. Six board members are appointed by the Trustees of Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust. Those appointments are reviewed three yearly in accordance with the act. The last review was on 30 June 2000. Five board members are appointed by the five Rotorua High Schools.
The purpose of the Board is to apply the net revenue (after administration charges) for the general purpose of education.
The mission of the Ngati Whakaue Education Endowment Board is:
"To enhance the legacy of Ngati Whakaue Tupuna by the responsible and effective management of the endowment; and the provision of financial support to the beneficiaries of the trust for the educational purposes that add value and benefit to our community"
Board assets
The Reserves and other Lands and Disposal Act 1995 vested all of the assets of the former Rotorua High Schools Board in the Endowment Board. The Rotorua High Schools Board was managed by the Public Trust at Rotorua until 31 July 1996 when management was transferred to the new property manager.
The Board's assets comprise commercial ground leases in the Rotorua CBD cash and investment reserves.
